Which color looks best on black women?

I'm a black woman and I'm trying to buy a dress for a special event. I don't wear dresses so I don't know what color works best with my skin tone. I'm not dark skinned but not light skinned. My choices are yellow, ermald, lilac and red. Which color would look best?

Which color looks best on black women?
I would stick to anything warm tones. Not lilac because there would be too much contrast. Red looks great, but its very sexy, so you have to make sure its appropriate. Emerald is great, but you have to make sure that it flatters your skin, doesn't hide it. Yellow is gorgeous, if its a warm deep tone yellow :)
Reply:Probably red, although it depends on what event your going to really. Like if you think red would be to showy then don't wear it. (for example, you're not suppose to wear red to a wedding). If not red then yellow.
Reply:The dress that makes you feel prettiest.

A woman who feels pretty will always turn heads
Reply:You are so lucky because any of these colors will look great on you. I would go with emerald or lilac.
Reply:So, if you are a skin tone between light and dark, all the colors you list would look good except perhaps for yellow.

Emerald would look divine on you. What colors look good on you in your regular wardrobe of those you have listed??

Do you have blouses in any of those colors? That should give you an idea how good the color will look on you. Ask your women friends what they think. They usually will give you good advice since they can actually see you (p.s., I cant)

Yellow tends to make people look sallow, drained out.

Of course, red is always a traditional festive color and with the right dress would also look marvelous. Take a good friend along with you, and ask for advice from your friend and from the saleslady. JCPenney's has a lot of very nice clothing, and often have deep discounts on their clothes in their stores. I have bought many a dress there for $20-30 that was originally $200, and looked luxurious, too.

Best of luck. P.S. The famous little black dress tends to bury women of color, unless they look like Holly Berry, who is very light-skinned. Think of the colors that women wear at the equator (Mexican, Philippinos, Africans, Indians) all are very colorful.
Reply:I'd go with blue.
Reply:you also have to take into consideration their body type.
Reply:emerald
Reply:emerald!!!
Reply:red
Reply:I say red. You sound like me-not really dark but not really light either. I think red would look great on you.
Reply:Yellow or red. I like bright colors.
Reply:it kinda depends on the shade of the dress. yellow looks great on some women, but shiny yellow, not just straight yellow fabric, if that makes sense. emerald would also look great. lilac would be good too. and red, depends on the shade, again. i woudl go with emerald, personally. have fun
Reply:yellow i think it will flatter your skin tone and you will stand out :)
Reply:either yellow or red. my mom says that red is a black woman's "color". it brings out the reddish tones in our skin. but either one is a good choice.
Reply:I think yellow out of these choices as it will bring out your skin tone. I. personally, would lean towards more neutral tones like bronzes or even orange hues with gold accents. If I knew what the event was, I could answer more specifically. Have fun!
