What can I do to create a chalk effect when painting my walls.?

Im going to paint my wall light purple/lilac and want to create a chalk like effect, then I am going to paint a pattern at the top of the wall to almost make it look like painted on wall paper? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks./

Sponge with two different, but close shades of lilac
Reply:two shades of pant one lighter and one darker to your wall color to give it dimension... try a very dry brush and a very light hand.... so the look is more wispy and will not look to heavy....
Reply:Get a sea sponge in the paint department of a home improvement store. Then use that to dab on a faux glaze. The faux glaze is opaque, but it allows the base color to come through, only lighter. The effect is almost like a crushed velvet texture. But, it may look like a chalk effect, depending on what you're going for.

Try it on a piece of wood first and see if that's the look you're going for.
Reply:You can apply it with a sponge or better still muslin.
