Wedding dress/bridesmaids' dress dilemma...?

http://davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_det...

I love this dress, but it seems impossible to find bridal party dresses that are simpler in style without being drab, or outrageously priced. The accent color is lilac. Everything I've seen outshines the wedding dress, or is shiny satin instead of chiffon, etc.

I do have another dress I love (it's a little more fancy), and found bridesmaid's dresses to match, but I want to see what my options are before choosing. Any ideas on where I can find the perfect bridal party dresses that follow the specs?

Wedding dress/bridesmaids' dress dilemma...?
You will have to have them wear dresses that are knee length.

I think one of these would be great and they all come in lilac. I think you'll like them. Good Luck.
Reply:Your choice of gown is lovely. Understated elegance!

Your maid's gowns could be similar to yours--if you had them shortened and added a cap sleeved jacket--a local seamstress could do that--and perhaps use the fabric from shortening the dresses--then the top would match the dresses--or you could have the jacket made one shade darker for contrast. OR, stay with all long gowns to match, which will look lovely, and have the maids wearing the jackets (there are some lace fabrics out there that are very pretty, also)

Yes, David's Bridal has a gown in your choice of color for the maids and I think you should go with what you know.

I hope this has been helpful.
Reply:this happened to me. i wanted a simple gown, but the ones i really liked for my bridesmaids totally made my dress look way too plain, and just like you said, it outshined mine. i ended up going w/ a different dress and even though i wanted it to be simple, the embellishment was just the thing i needed.

however i found these *don't forget if you get your dress from davids, you bridesmaids should get 10% off theirs:

this one w/ the pattern is lilac: http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_...

this one is pretty and simple: http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_...

Here are some that meet your criteria
Reply:You may want to check out pacificplex.com. They have some really cute dresses on there or go to amazon.com and type in pacificplex. They have one that is called the 50 strapless dress, and one is called satin chiffon. They are really nice and they are not bad priced either.

Reply:David's Bridal makes this exact same gown as a bridesmaid dress. http://davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_byco...

Why not have your bridesmaids wear this dress in a different color (they don't show "lilac" but they have "light perl"....)? You would still stand out as the bride because you'd be in white and you could definitely dress it up with jewlery and your hair. Just request that your bridesmaids tone down their jewelery or wear something you pick out for them so you can pick things for yourself that will make you look special.

I'll bet I get a lot of "thumbs down" for suggesting that a bride wear the same as her bridesmaids, but in the old days a wedding gown wasn't all that different from the dresses of the bridesmaids. And with a simple dress like the one you've picked out, I think the effect would be quite striking.
Reply:I like the idea of having your bridesmaids in teh same style - yes maybe shorter. this would look FANTASTIC %26amp; something a bit different in todays world.

the original idea for bridesmaids was that they all wore exactly the same as the bride so that any ''would be abductors'' would be confused %26amp; not be able to identify the bride.

A cousin of mine had her 3 bridesmaids in teh same style gown that she wore ; hers was white %26amp; the attendants had pastel colours all different - looked really effective.

I have also made a wedding dress %26amp; bridesmaids all in the same fabric - though different styles.

the day is YOURS %26amp; your fiance's so do what you feel comfortable with.

Maybe you could carry a bouquet %26amp; your bridesmaids carry a small handbag rather than flowers or with just a single bloom pinned on to the bag
Reply:I was looking at some bridesmaids dresses for myself and saw this dress and it reminded me of your question. Hope this helps!

Reply:I agree with Suzy-Q. After Six is your best bet for tons of simple dress options! Get on their website and play around.

Good luck!
Reply:One suggestion:

If your girls wear shorts dresses (i.e. tea length), they will look less formal and not outshine as much.

This might not be a bad choice....

You might want to keep your eye out for something more similar to your own dress though...
Reply:After Six has some nice dresses that wouldn't outshine that wedding dress. I definitely agree that the bridesmaids should wear shorter dresses, too.

There are a few I liked, but they have lots more.
Reply:Have you tried some non-bridal sources? Example:

Dillard's, Macy's, J. Crew catalog.

I have brides get b'maids' dresses from places like this all the time %26amp; they work out great! The good thing about them is the price %26amp; they are less formal!

Also, with chain dept stores, if they don't have a size you need in your local store, they can call around to their other locations to get another size or color.
