I went to David's Bridal....?

this past weekend and purchased my dress(YAY!!) from David's Bridal (no horror story so far) and I told my friends and family I did not want to wear a veil. When I was browsing threw the store I found a very pretty veil and was told the veil is $180. Do you think that is an awful lot of money to pay for a veil? How much would you pay for this veil? How much did you pay for your veil? They have others but I really like this one with the lilac color trimming. If I decide to go with a veil do you think I should get this one, is it worth it?

Thanks!

I went to David's Bridal....?
Do you have money in your budget to afford the veil? If you do, I say go for it. My veil was about 150 and it was the veil that I really wanted. So if you can afford it and you want it go for it!
Reply:Go for it. It is very pretty and if you have the money budgeted, why not?
Reply:I think it's hideous.
Reply:oh heaven no 180 bucks for a veil thats horrible. I paid 18 bucks for mine and it is very similar to yours.

Go here and look at her stuff its cheap but really nice.

Reply:My veil was $200, so yeah, thats about right.. Mine had scalloped edge with some embroydered flowers and rhinestones sewed on it. It was prettier than the dress in my opinion.

BTW - I really like that veil. I like that the color is in the veil whereas the wedding dress would just cream or white...its something different than all the dresses that have the colored sash, etc.
Reply:Personally, I wouldn't spend that much money on a veil. Mine was only $50.00. I do think that the one you picked out would look great with your dress. I think that if you like it, buy it and wear it. You're really the only one that can make this decision.
Reply:it's in the budget, it goes with the dress, most importantly YOU LOVE IT -- go for it!!
Reply:Veils are stupid-easy and cheap to make. I'm no seamstress, but I'm making my veil. It will be very similar to that one, but I'm using a narrow beaded ribbon for the trim. I got all the materials (tulle, ribbon and comb) for less than $20. You can find easy directions on line.
Reply:Had you purchased your veil at the same time as your dress you would have saved 10% off the cost of the veil. Because you are going with the lilac color, that veil will need to be ordered because it is not stocked in the store. You can also be assured that your veil will be spraid with a fire resistant coating. If you will post a picture of our gown I can give you a better opinion. David's Bridal has designed veils to complement their dresses.

Just remember that on your wedding day...all that matters is that you have found the gown of your dreams and you feel like a princess.
Reply:seems a bit high to me, I didn't veil shop toooo much b/c I wore my mom's veil. I did note price tags and I think most stuff was around 100-120. I don't know about spending that much on something I'm not sure I want tho! Trust me, so much goes over budget later on in the planning that you may be glad you saved the money later on!
Reply:There are wedding wholesalers where you can get your veil much much cheaper. I saw my veil for $100 and found it in the Los Angeles garment district area for $19. No joke. You may have to go out of the way but those big wedding stores get their supplies from someone else.
Reply:I was shocked when I saw how much veils and tiaras cost--it just isn't an expense you've ever really had any dealings with, and when you find out the prices, it comes as quite a shock! I had that with my wedding gown, so I get what you're saying! I think that's a typical price, and if it suits you and the dress, and is in your budget, then yes, I do think you should get it.
Reply:Try ebay...first...I wouldn't go above $100.00 personally.
Reply:I was exactly the same way! I didn't want a veil, and my consultant at Davids Bridal pulled one for me and I absolutely loved it! The one she pulled was $210.00 I thought that was a little pricey for a veil that I'm only going to be wearing ONE day for just a couple hours. So I went back and looked at the veils and found one I loved more for on $60. plus I got 10% off of that! This is the veil I purchased:

I got my veil in Ivory and the edgeing Champagne. but you can get the edge in any color!! I thought $60 was much better then the $210, Althought 210 is in my budget. I thought it was not worth it.

Good Luck!!
Reply:I bought my dress and veil from David's bridal. I think mine was around $80 dollars. I think $180 is way too much especially if you aren't even sure you want to wear one. Although in my opinion I really thought that the veil makes the dress. It just makes you really look like a bride. That's how I felt when I tried my dress on with a veil. Be sure you really want to wear a veil and if so then try a couple on with your dress and decide from here. Good luck and congrats!
Reply:the part that people forget about things like veils are the costs of someone actually making it, not just the materials. i would never pay $180 for a veil if I knew I could make it myself. Those materials would cost no more than $30 if you have basic sewing equipment. but then again, I could never make that specific veil.

making a veil takes some time and precision, it's not necessarily hard, but that's what you are paying for.
Reply:I love that color is coming into the wedding ceremony! I think this veil is beautiful and if it is what you want I believe it is worth the money. You only get married once, right?
Reply:That is an average price. My veil was $135.00 at Davids Bridal. I just purchased it in Sept.
Reply:The veil my mom loved and started crying when she saw was almost $700.00 not really in the budget but she really loved it and so did I, so we figure it could be a family heirloom!

Good luck! Congrats
Reply:That seems like an AWFUL price to pay.... I'm personally getting mine made with apple red trim and crystals throughout and its only costing me $45. And trust me, its not cheap looking!!! I've seen her work....

I would shop around. Just because you get your dress from DB, you can get your veil elsewhere.

Congrats! Hope you find what you're looking for!
Reply:I live in Los Angeles and there is a garment district downtown. There are a few shops that specialize in wedding/quincinera stuff. I got my veil there $22.00 and my tiara $25.00. There was a very large selection. Maybe your town or one nearby has a garment district.
Reply:Well assuming you have lilac as colors in your dress or your girls dresses then yes i think it would go very well. I"m not sure I would like paying $180 for it though. I like it in apple and wine colors.. very pretty.
Reply:BEING IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY FOR YEARS, THAT IS AN AVERAGE PRIC FOR A VEIL. DONT GET ME WRONG , YOU CAN FIND A $50.00 VEIL BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR . IF YOU LOVE THE VEIL, GO FOR IT! REMEMBER, ITS ONCE IN A LIFETIME!!! BEST OF LUCK
Reply:That is a beautiful veil! Well, it would depend on the dress and the wedding budget. David's Bridal is not the most expensive bridal store, so i would think it is a reasonable price, but only you can decide if the value of it exceeds the cost.

good luck, it is beautiful!
Reply:Yes, it's too much. I'm sure you could find a nicely used one (probably only worn once) on ebay.

Don't get sucked into paying for stuff like that... save that $180 bucks or spend it on something that you will use over and over again.

I got my veil for around $12 at Davids Bridal. I put a little touches of my own on a cheaper veil - nobody even noticed! And... it turned out really cute!

Seriously, don't get sucked into paying for stuff you don't actually need - nobody needs a freaking $180 veil! Even if you only get married ONCE!
Reply:Too much. I mean seriously how long are you gonna have this thing on? I made that exact veil and it cost me about $25 in supplies. I screwed up once or twice or it would have been $10. I don't know how to sew at all.

There are also TONS of wedding stuff on places like Ebay and Craigslist right now from all the weddings that happened in spring and summer. Check for second hand.
Reply:Unfortunately, veils are quite expensive and it's stupid really when you consider it's just a piece of fabric strung to a headband!! But with weddings, EVERY vendor takes you for a ride. All prices are jacked up a bit more than with anything else. My veil was even more expensive than that. I think my veil was over $200. I had no clue how much veils cost when I picked mine out (also at David's). All I knew was that it matched my dress perfectly. It wasn't until we went to check out that I discovered the price.
Reply:That's a pretty below average price. I paid about $150 at David's 6 years ago so that's a good price. I found others for $300 at a high end store. If you love it then just get it. Wear it at the reception too and get your money's worth.
Reply:first, veil's are a rip off. everyone knows that. but i cant make one so i shelled out the $195. no that's about right if it's the one you want. if it's what you want, girl, get it!! it's your day.
Reply:Love the gown! Not so crazy about the veil.

but, if you love it, and you can afford it, but it. But, keep in mind there might be somewhere else in your budget where the extra money would be better spent.

I spent $8 on my veil. I made it with the help of a friend, even though I have absolutly ZERO craft/sewing talent.
Reply:I know veils are ridiculously expensive, my mom and I made mine instead and it cost about $50.00 for a cathedral-length single tier tulle veil with beading all the way around the edge. I made it to match the one I saw in the store that was $300, and I can't tell a difference!!! Plus it meant a lot for me and my mom to make it together, and it will be a great heirloom to pass down.

I do think you should wear a veil though, this is the only time in your life you can weara veil and get away with it, so I would encourage you to wear one so you dont regret it. It really made me feel like a real bride when I put mine on. I'm only wearing it for the ceremony too, that's an easy way to incorporate it if you dont want to wear it all nite or dont want it in all your pictures.

If you really love it I would think $180.00 is worth it, especially if the color matches your dress and you want that in your veil, it will be hard to find that somewhere else. If you wan tot make it though and save about $100.00 at least go to Joannes and get a pattern ($9), buy bridal tulle, and have fun! If you dont have the time though, I would definitely buy this one that you like!
