i was thinking of a purple, and soft lilac colored room. i dont know if i should get polka dots or strips of even what colors would look together..PLZ HELP!
Im moving to a new house and need to decorate my room. What color should i paint my walls?
A purple palette will be so pretty. Check out these colors by Behr: "rose fantasy," "wine frost," "and "mauve mist." Just copy %26amp; paste this web addy into your browser:
http://www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/
and then click on "start colorsmart" to look at the colors.
Diagonal lines would look cool, but so would dots in all different sizes - like bubbles.
Good luck!
Reply:1st of all how old are you? and what room are you speaking of?
What I mean is are you a teen or an adult? Is this a bedroom, and maybe a bathroom?
I can see a teen and/or adult female using lilac in a bedroom or bathroom, same thing with the polka dots or strips (bed or bath, maybe) and lilac is a cool relaxing color.
And there are lots of great home decor sites to check out. like:

this one shows faux treatments:

Have fun, a new room can be like a new beginning and a new chapter in you life. Make sure you sort threw everything and throw away junk, trash, and things you don't need anymore BEFORE you move.
Reply:When I chose colors for my new house I chose the colors from the existing artwork that I was going to hang.
I took digital photographs of my room, put them on the computer and used the dropper in "Photoshop" to take color from the picture on the wall (in the photograph) then used the paint bucket on photoshop to paint the walls of the picture. That gave me a good idea of what the room looked like ahead of time. It was fun experimenting with different combinations. Give it a try.
Reply:Kind of a hard question to answer, without knowing more about you. Or how much work you want to put into it. Besides, taste is all a matter of opinion, anyway.
That said, I'll put in my two cents anyway ^__^
If you're going for a fun and funky look, mixing and matching colors that don't ordinarily go together (like...bright green and purple) and in bold, completely mismatched patterns (stripes, dots, circles) on different walls is perfectly fine. This might drive some people nuts - it's really not the norm.
You can also do borders - either with stencils and paint, or actual border paper for a cute look.
On the other hand, if you want a more room that will probably suit you for longer (assuming you are young) you may want to go for more coordinating colors. Like painting the walls lilac with a purple trim.
Personally, I always think it's best to paint the room in solid colors (whatever color you want, no patterns) and let your accessories (pictures, posters, stickers, etc) add the more personal, unique touch - that way, if you get tired of it, you can change it more easily than having to paint the room again.
I really like a friend's room - he did the room in a deep red/burgundy color (sounds too dark, but it was fabulous) with one wall a gorgeous gray-green color. It added a great contrast - but he has a really high ceiling and slate floor, so that helped. I've seen others paint three walls one color with one deep contrasting wall, and I think it usually turns out pretty well.
Good luck with your room=)
