I think I understand why in Sodium, but not in potassium. The color of potassium without blue glass is lilac, no? Is it because both have large concentration in sodium in it?
What is the purpose of using blue glass in identifying sodium and potassium? (flame test)?
Sodium in a flame test should appear bright yellow. When viewed through a blue glass this will look green (Blue and yellow = green)
Potassium in a flame test is a red/purple colour. When viewed through a blue glass, it should be very difficult to see...if at all!
Hope this is of some help.
Cheers :)
